Introduction to InDesign

Who is the course for?

This course is designed for new users who wish to create and edit professional polished printed layouts covering brochures, newsletters and flyers. This course will provide an in-depth, hands-on overview of the capabilities of Adobe InDesign.

Pre-requisites

You need to have basic Windows skills and be familar with a text editor/word processor.

Introducing InDesign How Desktop Publishing differs from word processing; the InDesign environment; the toolbox and palettes; the Control palette; menu and dialog boxes

Getting started Creating a new publication from scratch; creating a new publication using a template; working with column and ruler guides

Working with frames Understanding text and picture frames; creating text frames; adding text to a frame; importing text into a frame; flowing text though multiple frames; importing and positioning images

Formatting text Understanding typographical terminology; formatting text; working with paragraph styles; working with character styles; modifying styles; setting tabs

Working with colour An overview of colour; apply colour to frames, lines and text; creating new colours

Tables Creating simple tables; adding content to a table; importing data into a table

Saving and printing Saving and naming a publication; output for print; print considerations; output to PDF

Working with Styles Creating and applying paragraph styles; creating and applying character styles; working with nested styles; importing styles; updating styles; introducing Object styles

Working with Layers Introducing layers; creating, hiding and deleting layers; changing the stacking order of layers

Text Effects Text wrap; apply text rules; working with text on a path

Making and Packaging Books Master pages; numbering and headers and footers; creating a Table of Contents; creating an Index; creating a book; synchronizing page numbering and styles

Libraries and Snippets Working with Libraries; adding and accessing library items; creating and using Snippets

Adobe Bridge Introducing Adobe Bridge; locating and managing files through Adobe Bridge
